Dana White just made a major announcement via a conference call with the press. The UFC and WEC will be merged pretty much immediately. All WEC employees will come over to the UFC.
Jose Aldo has been announced officially as the first UFC Featherweight champion and he'll make his first UFC defense at UFC 125 rumored to be against either Mark Hominick or Josh Grispi.
The winner of Dominick Cruz vs Scott Jorgensen at WEC 53 will be the first UFC Bantamweight champion. No details on when the first UFC defense of that title will be.
The winner of Ben Henderson vs. Anthony Pettis at WEC 53 will face the winner of the Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard fight at UFC 125 in the future to unify the WEC and UFC 155 lb titles.
This means the UFC will only be running 4 free shows per year on Versus Network. For the former WEC fighters it means an increase in pay for all of them.
UFC and WEC officially merge!
